05-24-06 Nuker's SMN AF Pants and Sean's NIN hit 60!

Blixmas and Nuker took on the BCNM sprouts for SMN AF pants (with some help from some of Nukers buddies) and they beat the previous record set. Good job guys! I'm not sure if Nuker or Blixmas took screenshots, but if I get my hands on some I'll be sure to add it to this post ^^;

Sean spent his evening partying with his NIN in Lab. of Onzozo. I had to stop watching his party cause it drove me nuts. Sean spent 70% of the time either muted or paralyzed. Sean was more forgiving than I was about it. He said that because he had a SMN main healer that it was ok for him to have to ask for status removals. I don't think there is any excuse for it. There were several people in the party with /WHM (including a BRD) that didn't think it was necessary to remove the effect off Sean. I thought it was common knowledge that a muted and paralyzed tank (especially a NIN!) is a dead tank.

I had this same problem in Lab. of Onzozo when I was leveling my BRD. I spent all of my limited MP taking off silence and paralyze for our NIN tanks mainly because the WHM wasn't doing it and I felt bad for the NIN having to ask for it several times a fight. Not to mention that it takes way more mp to heal a tank than it does to remove silence and let him cast blinks!

... anyway. I could go on and on about this. But I will spare you :P

Sean made it to level 60! He wants to take a little break from NIN and help me rebuild gill... but I really want him to keep going with it. The higher he is in level the better off everyone is. I could really use his NIN to help me get my BLM AF. Speaking of my BLM, I decided to take a break from it until Sean's NIN is a little higher in level.

What will I do with my time? Farm -.- and level SMN if I can ever get a party. Nuker said that he rarely uses Fenrir so it won't be that big of a deal that I don't have him. At least it is a cheap job to level.

I'm also working on Bliss again... I really want to make her a SMN. The major roadblock is fame. I took my BRD out to KRT and farmed for bat wings to help build her fame. After about 1.5 hours I was able to send over 4 stacks to Bliss. Trading those gave me lvl 2 fame in Sandy. Not great really, but it did allow me to accept the honey quest from Rainbroy (spelling?). Now I can farm for hours in Giddeus building gil and have a use for all the honey I get. Before long I'll max out fame in Sandy.

I was able to get Bliss to 36WHM the other day (Sunday I think) and I am 900 tnl to 37. The party disbanded and I wasn't in the mood to push the issue of getting my level first. I'll ask Sean to powerlevel me the rest of the way :)

05-23-06 Blah!

I've been sick so I haven't really kept up with this blog very well since Friday 05-19-06. I'm fairly certain that my kids brought something home from school that left them well and me on my ass all weekend and into the early part of this week.

05-18-06 52BLM and 59NIN

Those who knows me will tell you that I tend to rant...

I know I do.

Here is the rant for the evening:

I was invited to a party in Quicksand Caves, the western Altepa Desert entrance, by a DRG. Nothing new about that, most DRGs make parties. I change to WHM, tele myself, head to Rabao, change jobs and hop a bird.

I get there and the first thing I ask is "what skillchain are you guys doing?" By the silence I should have known that there wasn't one.

Now keep in mind that I was invited to the party by a DRG... so the first thing I think of is Distortion. Odds are you can make Distortion with someone in the party if you have a polearm.

So I suggest Double Thrust to Vopral Scythe. I was rejected. O.o!

Why? Because the DRG "doesn't want to use Double Thrust. Penta Thrust hits harder."

I was screaming at the monitor.

So what SC did these "players" select? Transfixion and Compression.

Yeah...

I tried to explain that I can't MB those with an elemental damage spell and that Dia and Bio are virtually my only options.

They said... and I quote: "Doesn't matter. We don't need a MB."

More screams at the monitor.

I finally gave up on the hopes of being able to MB... and played with my spells. At one point I was casting Freeze and Tornado just to see how much damage it would do and if I could stay alive. Without a RDM, BRD or COR in that party it was tough to manage mp... but they had such low expectations of BLM that it really didn't matter what I did.

I did reach lvl 52 in the party so I can't complain but so much.

OMG! I really need to work on BLM AF! Ugh -.- more keys and coffers.

Meanwhile...

Sean was having a blast in Valley of Sorrows. He was in a great party and didn't say much while he was in it. That is usually a good sign. Bad parties usually inspire new cursing phrases to be formed.

He hit 59 and much more in that party. It was the type that you hate to leave because you know they are few and far between.

05-17-06 Kazham Keys for Caniko

I was home from work early to I decided to put some xp on my BLM. As soon as I logged on and exited my Mog House in Al Zabi... Besieged!

Sweet! I ran around the area until I reached the fighting area and started healing as many people as my limited mp would allow. I looked at the radar and there so many people in the area that it was glowing blue. We did manage to win and I walked away with 311 points.

Shortly after was I offered a spot in a party to fight in Korrolaka tunnel. We didn't have a true tank and I died on the first pull. I wasn't mad about it beacuse I know that it is really hard (almost impossible) to tank as a WAR/NIN. I had to tone it down to just one or two damage spells a fight and to time it so that one of the two WARs had provoke ready.

I always seem to get screenshots of my character dead... maybe because I have nothing better to do at that moment ^^;

One of the tanks {Connection Lost} and the party ended. I did manage to get half way through 51 and the party ended just before dinner.

After dinner there isn't much to write about... we did not have as much time to play as we usually do. I had to help my daughter with her report and Sean just messed around in his Mog House.

We did manage to find the time to help Caniko with his Kazham Keys. Boy that brings back memories ^^;

Kazham was the first time we met Tac! And that is where we met that crazy kitty Liquids.

It didn't take nearly as long as it did when we need the keys (lucky bastards). Nuker helped with the Grotto key, and Sean and I helped with the others.

So not too eventful for our characters... but we did help out a new LS member so time well spent in my opinion.

05-16-06 Party! Party! Party!

Sean and I were offered parties almost as soon as we put up our flags ^^; So we spent quite a bit of time leveling.

Sean's party wanted to go to Gustav Tunnel and take on gobs and crabs. I didn't hear too many complaints from him so I assume it was a decent party. He just hates fighting gobs because of the bomb toss... and I don't think they had a stunner in the party.

He was able to reach level 58 ^^! We are planning to do the Dark Spark fight for his AF hands tomorrow night.

Meanwhile...

My party wanted to go to Quicksand Caves to the Western Altepa entrance and take on bettles and Anticans. The party formation was very similar to what Sean had the other night: NIN, BLUx2, RDM, BLM and COR. The COR was the only difference.

I was able to get a screenshot of the entire party getting refresh from the COR which I was not able to do the last time I partied with one because I was puller ^^;

That really is so freaking cool!

At 600 TNL, the party leader decides that we are ready for Korrolaka Tunnel. I didn't think so.. but I thought maybe he knew something I didn't :P It was not good. The party was too low for the mobs. But we pushed until everyone that was close leveled.

Level 51 ^^; Elemental Staves!

05-15-06 Job Change - BLM

I think it was Sean's turn to have a bad party night :P

The party was in Valley of Sorrows and it just sucked for so many reasons. Deaths on the way to camp, one player went afk for over 45 minutes to get his kids McDonalds, the BLM didn't enfeeble cause "he didn't want to waste his mp on those spells".

O.o!!

Meanwhile...

I finished my BLM macros and tested them out on some crabs in Battillia Downs. With everything in order, I put my flag up.

I was offered a spot in a party that was planning to fight chamber beetles in GC. Beetles? Aspir mob... Yummy!

The party leader mentioned before I joined the party that they did not have a RDM or a BRD but wondered if I was still interested... I said "Sure." It was an LS party so they were having a good time. Honestly, I didn't mind that the pulls were a little slow. The group of people that I partied with made it fun.

I made it to level 50 before the party disbanded for the evening... and yes that means that I have Freeze. Ancient Magic baby! Muhahahaha!

I am in the Tac. Magician's coat again... at least my character looks good in it.

05-14-06 Second Jungle Hell and Another NIN Coffer

Sean is diggin NIN. Personally, I think it is because his character is way sex-ay!

He partied in Cape Terrigan with a really unusual party formation: NIN, BLUx2, WHM, RDM and BLM. It went really well! Go figure.

Sean was tank and puller. The BLUs took turns doing a move that bumps the mob and disoriented it for a split second while Sean casted for blinks. They chained really well on crabs and even better on the pugils.

He said that the Scorp Harness makes a world of difference. Sex-ay and practical!

Meanwhile...

I really don't like that meriting is the only option for my character these days... So I decided to dress Bliss again and gear her up for partying.

And then I changed my mind.... again!

This is not the first time that I have hit a point in this game where I'm a little bored and not sure what to do with myself.

When I was dressing up Bliss, I started to think about all the things that I would like to do with her: Play SMN, BLM, RDM, and even rebuild BRD. Then I started to think about all the work that it would take to get all of the fame need to get each avatar quest... and the gobbie bag quests that I would need to be able to hold all of my instruments... and the rank missions I would need to do to not feel like a complete n00b.

I talked myself into taking a party as Bliss' BLM. A couple of things should have clued me in that the party I was joining was a dud. When the party learder is the WHM and says to you that you may have to backup heal: Run! When the party leader says to you that they will be fighting in Yhoator Jungle as a 25-26 party: Run! But no.. I didn't run. I stayed.

Half the party went AFK every other fight. The WHM didn't cast cure to wake others in the party after Dream Flower. Most of the time being put to sleep as well cause he didn't move out of range. The WHM didn't have Barsleepra. The party was impressed with the 200 xp we got for each fight but didn't notice the 5 minute wait between pulls due to very low mp at the end of each battle. I was resisted on almost every elemental cast (just too low in level for the mobs in the second jungle).

It was terrible.

After I left the party, I decided to park Bliss for now. I play FFXI to relax and have fun. And I WAS NOT having fun in that party. And I can't imagine that any future parties were going to be any better.

Later...

Sean decides that we need to pop a coffer in Ifrit's Cauldron for his NIN AF Hands. This is the first part of the quest. The second is killing Dark Spark.

With his key (I double checked before we left^^) we head out. I went as WHM/BLM and he subbed WHM for Sneak and Invisible. With Sean hanging out at the entrance, I went in to locate a coffer. Having mined out here in the past, I am really familiar with the layout.

As luck would have it, I was able to find one fairly quickly. Below is a screenshot of me hanging out in a safe spot while helping Sean find the coffer.

We were really lucky because the coffer was on the end of a ledge and there was nothing around to aggro as he popped it. We escaped and home free.

By this point it was pretty late in the evening and Nuker was already in a party. So Sean was ok with waiting until another night to kill ol' Darky.

I did decide on what to do instead of meriting all the time: I will level my BLM on Jenmist.

Why not? It is level 49. I have a Moldy Earring (don't recall how to spell it's real name!). BLM is a fun job. I have fame and some of the expensive spells out of the way already. I have a fully leveled sub... 2 if you count SMN as a possible.

I couldn't think of a reason not to do it. So once again I was shopping! Which I must say is my favorite part of this game :P

And that is where I left the game for the night... with my 49 BLM dressed and working on my macros.

05-13-06 Sean's NIN decked out in red and black!

Doesn't the title of this post say it all? :)

He was invited to party in The Boyhada Tree. Using the Empress Band trick (using the band before leaving Jeuno and recharging it) he was able to get 7k EXP in the same amount of time it would have taken 3.5k ^^; Good thing too, the party disbanded 3 fights after he leveled.

Meanwhile...

I spent some time in a Merit / Imperial Standing Points party. We started out in Dvuuca Isle Staging Point fighting these:

They were a total pain in the tushy... way too much HP and they caused too much damage on the party. Which was just too much for me and the poor RDM that had to try and heal everyone.

So we went to the Imp/Fly camp in the Mire. Much better chains and overall EXP.

I was able to gain 2 more Merit Points. That gave me the 4 that I needed to level up on Max MP ^^;

05-13-06 Capping Exp and more Merits!

I woke up this morning at my usual time of 6:00 AM. Why so early on a Saturday? Sean set my alarm so I could wake him up at 7:00. That bastard! :P

Since I was awake and the house was quiet, I decided to flag up and see what my chances were on getting a party. They were pretty good apparently, because I was offered one in less than 5 minutes ^^;

The party decided to go to B. Thickets and for the first time since the expansion came out, everyone in the party had the portal. Thank goodness cause I really wasn't in the mood or the frame of mind to make the run that early in the morning -.-

The xp would have been better if there hadn't been sooooo many people in the area. After about an hour I asked the WARs and NINs in my party to Provoke pull.... Elegy was no match for the other pullers who were using Provoke. At one point I counted 6 pullers not including myself. If it hadn't been so late in Japan I think we would have moved to another staging point.

But all things considered we did well. I was always curious about what would happen if you selected the EXP mode and capped out. Would it automatically switch you to Limit mode? Today I got my answer: Yes it will switch automatically. I was 39.5k/44k when we started the party. It took no time at all to gain that much EXP and then I started gaining merit points.

One more point and I can merit for more MP ^^; But I think I will leave my option set to EXP mode... just in case I happen to die it will switch me back to recap and then back to Limit mode when I do. Kinda nice that they set it up that way.

I may merit more later this afternoon. But I need to log out and take my daughter to my office. She has a school project due this week and needs to print out some pictures for it. ^^;

05-12-06 Besieged! Monster Lag -.- Killer Fun!

After seeking for party for well over an hour, Besieged started so Sean and I decided to see what would happen if his NIN and my BRD paired up.

Sean was hitting for 0! But we still had a good time trying to kill stuff. It was an Undead Swarm (Lvl 5) so it was at least a challenge. Loads of people in the area making the lag terrible.

We both died twice ^^;

Here is a pic of me getting a raise:

I decided after my 2nd raise that I would just stick to healing others :P And Sean just tried to stay out of the way and not die again LOL.

We did win the battle :) thanks to the effort of a ton of level 75 players!

I walk out of there with 700 ISP! Sweet! Run around and heal people and get ISP... that works for me!

But that was the end of our fun for the evening. Sean continued to seek for party, but an invite never came. Finally he decided to log out for the night. He was kinda bummed that he didn't get a chance to xp... but he seemed ok with trying again tomorrow night!

Oh and on my way to Besieged, I saw this little taru:

I swear, people will do anything to get you to look at their bazaar!

05-11-06 Merits and Exp Parties

Poor Sean...

He started out the evening in The Boyahda Tree with the hopes of getting the same type of exp that he was able to get in a previous party. He was not that lucky.

The party started out killing Knight Crawlers and Robber Crabs. The crab fights were too long and drained the mp of the few mages. They switched to crawlers in hopes chains would get better, but again, no such luck. After about 30 minutes (if that) the RDM says "I gotta go" and the party spends an hour trying to replace him.

The finally decided to get another (as in 3 total) BLM and continue. The chains were faster but they fought lower level mobs so the xp was less. Finally after another 20 minutes one person said they had to log cause the Internet Cafe they were playing in was closing in 5 minutes.... and true to form someone else in the party said that they needed to leave too. Sean walked away with 5k in XP and was not a happy camper.

It wasn't long before he was offered another spot in a party. But this time they wanted to fight in Gustav Tunnel fighting gobs and crabs. On the 4th fight, the gob they were fighting kept interupting his casts for blinks and dropped him. Someone in the party casted raise, he accepted... and the gob threw a bomb. Dead again. Not a very promising start :P

SMN, WAR, BRD, NIN, BLU and I couldn't tell what the last job was. But things were better in this party than the last. Slow start, but it smoothed out.

Sad thing is that Sean will not hit level 57 tonight... just too much xp to gain before we go to bed. I'm sure he will get it tomorrow night.

Meanwhile...

I decided to take my BRD out and work on my merits. I was terrible about building points when I first hit 75... but at that time the only real option was to spend your life in sky. Nice that the new lands have changed that.

I accepted a party offer and we decided to go to Bha. Thicket. There were a couple of people in the party that did not have that stagin point yet and needed to make the run. I used the portal and took the time to finish the kids baths and snacks... Hey, gotta play Mommy before I can play this game :P

The party was ok, not great... but I was able to watch a COR in action. He/She (Mithra so who knows) was level 71 when we offered her a party. I must say that BRD and COR go well together in a merit or ISP party. The rolls and songs stack so the melees get mad Attack. The mages are also very lucky... I think the RDM in my party said they were getting 9mp/tick with the rolls plus songs.

I felt bad that when I need to leave (some of us actually work for a living and not play this game 27/7 :P ) because I was not able to find another BRD to replace me. And since I was pulling I wasn't able to search for a replacement of any kind. I gave 30 minute notice and asked if someone wouldn't mind searching for me.... but as usual I was ignored. I reminded them again at 15. Finally I just had to leave.

I did manage to get 2 merit points :) Granted I was only 1k from the first one when we started to kill.

I only need 2 more point to get another point on Max MP. Not too shabby considering that I just started meriting last weekend.

I'm not sure what the game plan is for me tomorrow night... I'm sure I will merit more and work on ISP.

I know Sean will keep pushing for 57 :P He wants to wear the SH soooo bad and it kills him that he is this close! 7k tnl sooo very close.

05-10-06 {Scorpion Harness} {Can I have it?}

Sean spent most of the night seeking party... which was a little strange. But I told him to hang in there and sure enough he was offered a replacement spot in a party in Crawler's Nest. The party went really well and he was able to get a little bit of xp but sadly not enough to hit 56.

But having been a replacement for someone else in the party, the party disbanded after 1.5 hours (maybe less). And it was too late in the evening to join another. He is dying to hit 57 and put on that Scorpion Harness. He has been looking forward to it for a long time. Party set up was as follows:

  • NIN - Seangem
  • NIN - Pimplahdon
  • BRD - Logray
  • THF - Sanso
  • BLM - Thompson
  • MNK - Temari

Sean decided a week ago that he was going to get all of his low level jobs out of the Bronze gear... Thank goodness! I mean.... he looks sex-ay >.> Judge for yourself :P

{/snicker} Nice legs!

Sean managed to gain a level on his DRK (hence why he was wearing that awful outfit).

Meanwhile...

I farmed again. {/Joy!} Something very soothing about beating up on bees and well over dressed I might add.

As much as I like to farm, I hate the fact that it takes more time to synth what I farmed than it does to actually farm the parts needed.

Oh well, we are well stocked with Echo Drops again and it's a good thing too. I have a feeling we are going to need tons of them.

05-09-06 NIN AF Head and killer party in The Tree

Another eventful evening... we are on a roll!

Sean needs yet another piece of his NIN AF and remembered to bring his key along this time ~.^ Told you I wasn't going to let it go.

We head out to The Boyahda Tree in search of a coffer. After about 30 minutes (meaning someone just popped a chest) we find one in the Knight Crawlers tunnel.

He pops the chest, I slept the crawlers and start casting Teleport-Mea...

Sounds easy enough right? Wrong. We are not that lucky -.-

A Lightning Elemental was around the corner (yeah yeah I know I should have checked!) and drops Sean with a Thundaga something... leaving me with crawlers sleeping and this stupid elemental and dangerously low HP. The crawlers wake up, beat on me some more and I slept the bunch with 11 HP and start casting again to get the hell out of dodge.

Stop laughing! Wait until you at least see the pictures I took LOL.

Poor Sean! He took the death well.

Shortly after our little adventure he was offered a party in The Boyahda Tree fighting crabs. The party setup was a little weird but effective:

  • NIN - Seangem
  • COR - Kitty
  • BLU - Tohma
  • WAR - Moonbeam
  • DRK - Chilicheese
  • RDM - Dragosal

They were getting anywhere from 160-200 XP. At one point early in the party, Sean received 477 XP due to COR and Impress Ring. The party took him from 4k over level 54 to well into level 55.

Other than helping Sean with his coffer, I did virtually nothing in-game. I spent the majority of my time on here! :P

I did manage to craft a bit before heading out to the tree, replenishing our stock of echo drops and silent oils. So the evening wasn't a total loss.

Oh well, there is always tomorrow :) I will be off early again and I hope to get a few hours to merit. We shall see!

05-09-06 It figures...

I came home from work early today... only to find that there is an All Worlds Maintenance -.-

Oh well...

Nap time!

05-08-06 Last 2 Staging Points and NIN AF Boots

Considering that we are slow at doing anything in this game, Sean and I had a rather eventful evening! I think it was the pressure I put on myself to have something to put on today's journal entry :p

I decided that it was time to make the last 2 "Death Runs" for the Halvung/Mount Zhayolm staging area and the Dvucca Isle staging area... in that order. The Mount Zhayolm run was cake. Just zone in to Halvung and escape, short run in Mount Zhayolm and bingo!

The Dvucca Isle one was more of a pain in the tushy. I died once, but I at least had Reraise II on and the sense enough to run like hell and die in the spot that was clear of Imps. Nothing like turning a corner and running right into 3 of them.
{Bastard Sword}

Thank goodness for the Online maps that I printed out earlier... they were soooo helpful.

I can now say that I have all the staging areas under my belt {/flex} and that is worth the death in my opinion :)

Picture of me "becoming one" with the runic portal:

Meanwhile....
Sean spent some quality time in a party in Kuftal Tunnel. Good party and when people decided to leave they kept replacing. He went from level 53 to level 54 and strolled out of there with his spankin' new NIN AF Boots :) Of course he guilted me into coming out there to take a screenhot of his new sex-ay attire.

Speaking of his NIN AF Boots, as you may know that is a Treasure Coffer in Sea Serpent Grotto. We had farmed for his key weeks ago and even popped a chest just to get a map of this area to speed things up when he need to pop it.

Last night, we ran all the way to the section where the coffers are (behind the mythril door), find a Treasure Coffer, I slept all the mobs in range with Horde Lullaby so he can safely open it...

and he tells me that he left his Coffer Key in his Mog House.

O.o What?!?!

Anyway, thought you would find that amusing... but I honestly didn't at the time :p I told him that I will never let him forget this blunder. Every time I mention it he just flicks me off t(o.o)t

Finished the night off with some bee farming... damn NIN is eating threw our gil again. Looks like I will need to spend some quality time farming to make Silent Oils again... grr!
