05-23-2008 All was well... until my router freaked out
Was in a party for a few hours at Garlaige Citadel, got a level and close to another when my router decided to have a seizure. I wasn't able to log back in for over 10 minutes and the party replaced me. Very sad but how the game goes I guess. I got my level off some gobs on my way back to Jeuno so I'll try again in the morning.

05-20-2008 You can change servers, but you can't change the people on them
After soloing a few mobs out in Sauromugue Champaign as my then level 32 DNC, a Japanese player invited me to party. Once the party formed, we head to Garlaige Citadel. Two DNCs as tank so you know the first fight was rough. The PUP starts saying in party chat Provoke and repeats several times followed by questions as to who is tanking. I explained that 2 DNCs can tank after we build TP and he proceeds to complain that he will not be able to use his RNG build on his Automaton. I told the party that I would leave if they could find a proper tank and there was one seeking, a JP NIN. Rather than letting me go, they kick the PUP who proceeds to /slap the leader and spouting racial comments about Japanese players and being over all obnoxious.
Yeah it sucks to be kicked from a party, but this guy was taking it way too far. So I had to say something. This lead to her/his changing jobs to a 67MNK/33WAR and provoke claiming everything I tried to pull back to the party. This continued for about 10 minutes until one party member (relatively new RDM player) suggested that we contact a GM. I explained that what he/she was doing was not illegal, just mean so there was nothing that could be done.
I must admit that I lost my temper. I sunk to a new low by calling him/her (an elvaan female avatar) a sad pathetic drag queen. I can't help it though, he/she had pushed my buttons.
This war of words continued for about 5 minutes until I finally had enough and said "I'm done with you. If you could see the terrible display of your character that we can you would be as sick as I am." and never said another word. He/she then claimed to be bored and that he/she had a static party to go to and used an instant warp. Having been in a static, I've never once ran around with my party flag up and a generic search comment written for obtaining a pick up party. So what does that mean? He/she lied to save face, as if there was any honor left to salvage. In addition, who in their right mind would seek party as a level 33 PUP knowing their static would form in the next 30 minutes? A liar and a jerk would.
With that drama aside, our party continued without flaw. We picked up the NIN and a MNK to replace the sympathetic DRK that piped in on how "that was f-cked up!" He too was a new player and younger person judging by his comments during the performance.
I reached level 33 and was able to put on my Peacock Charm. I want to believe that the Japanese players in my party were pleased and impressed at my skills even though I let that guy/girl get under my skin. They have to know that I was defending them indirectly. It is those types of player that justify the "Japanese Party Only" search comments and I won't tolerate racial hate, even in-game.
Who is this person you ask? Blackthorns of the DarkSaga linkshell. The only reason I'm listing the name here is future reference.
So if (and when) I see this person again in an endgame LS or alliance, I will remind him/her of who I am and tell everyone that I can not party with him/her and explain why. I can only imagine which they would rather have: either of my 75WHMs or 75BRD or his 75MNK.
Only time will tell.

05-19-2008 Reached 32 DNC.. the long way!
I started the evening out barely over level 31 on DNC and put my flag up around 7:00 PM. Kept my flag up for a little over 3 hours and no invite. So I spent my time soloing my way to level 32 by killing first jungle mandies and avoiding the smithies.
While soloing, I watched the boys do their first set of lesser gods in Sky with the new endgame LS. The runs went smooth. Sup didn't lot on anything, but Honos got Byakku's Axe and Seiryu's sword. Good weapons for his WAR more the axe than the sword and nobody seemed to want them.
I spent a little time working on Eirene: Her DRK is now 7 and her BST is now level 6. Small steps toward that goal but it is progress none the less.

05-18-2008 Back in the saddle!
At the end of December 2007, we (Bob, Sean and I) moved from the Odin to the Pandemonium server. After only a few months there, we decided to make another server change. This time to Bismark. Funny how different servers have different environments.
Odin, for example, is over-populated, packed with people that were self-serving and generally a unpleasant place to be. Pandemonium has nice people, but no one partied at the lower levels. It was odd. Not a bunch of new players. Mostly players that have taken one job to level 75 and stayed there. Even when they leveled, it was on other characters rather than making one character that had multiple jobs. Strange. Bismark seems to be a blend of both. New players and overall happy veterans.
During the course of the moves Seangem changed his name to Esus, Nuker is now Sup, Bliss is now Atia, Mercury is now Honos and we have created two new Tarutarus: Pullo and Eirene. Jenmist changed her name to Roseblade while on Pandemonium but then changed it back when we moved to Bismark. I liked the new name, but it just didn't feel right to be named something other than Jenmist. People would call me Rose and I wouldn't respond. Bliss was taken on both servers, so I named her after my favorite Rome character. The new tarutarus followed suit: Pullo for Sean's favorite Rome character and Eirene to match. Sean refused to go back to Seangem so Esus he became. Mercury was taken on both servers so Sean named him Honos. Lots of name changes, but still the same players.
Although we liked running our own social LS, it was heartbreaking to make friends and watch them leave. So this time around we are joining a LS. The boys are seeking an endgame LS and I'm still undecided. My schedule doesn't permit me to commit to set times for events and honestly I don't have much interest in one. I may join a social and help people get missions, quests and AF as needed... just to have something to do.
Today my focus was on Jenmist's DNC. Went from 28-31 today so it is well on its way to becoming a viable subjob. Not sure if I want to take it to 75 just yet. But who knows. I change my mind as easily as changing jobs.
I have yet to find a social LS to "hang out" on but I'm sure I will soon. I've met a few nice people so far, but most seem to have had an endgame LS where they spend 100% of their time. I'm not too concerned. I became used to playing without social interaction towards the end of our time on Odin and all of the time I spent on Pandy.
I like DNC as it is the most versatile job I have ever played; back up tank, back up healer, puller, debuffer just to name a few roles. I'm always moving. similar to the way that a BRD does. It is a little challenging to play a main tank or healer because of DNCs dependancy to TP but it can be done. I'm sure it will improve at 33 when I can wear the Peacock Charm. I may break down and buy a set of Snipper's Rings to boost my ACC. The prices have dropped a ton since the last time I considered picking them up for my DRG.
Speaking of DRG, I tried DRG/DNC the other day and it went surprisingly well. Mainly I was curious to see how the wyvern would react to weapon skills (incidentally like a WAR sub). It was interesting enough that I am considering using DNC as my sub to help level DRG to 60. But it will all depend on how much I want DRG AF for Jenmist.
I'm sure I will pop on occasionally to update my blog but I don't see it happening consistently. I highly doubt that it is even looked at by anyone anyway but that was never the point of posting here in the first place. I enjoy writing about our journey, where ever it takes us. I'm content in playing when I can and bringing my blog up-to-speed with my stats to pass the time.
